Diamond Head Hike

See O‘ahu's beautiful southern coastline from atop one of Hawai‘i's most famous landmarks. Diamond Head was created about 300,000 years ago during a single, brief eruption. The broad, saucer-shaped crater covers 350 acres with its width being greater than its height. The trail to the summit was built in 1908 as part of the U.S. Army Coastal Artillery defense system. From the trailhead to the summit of Diamond Head Crater, you will cover 0.7 miles one way and climb 560 feet from the crater floor. Portions of the trail go through dark tunnels- a flashlight is suggested. The hike will take you through World War II bunkers on the way up to the summit. Don't forget to bring a camera!
